How much does a retaining wall cost in Sydney?
Retaining walls are priced per linear metre and the height changes everything. A wall up to about one metre runs $320 to $680 per linear metre installed in Sydney. Anything taller usually needs engineering and certification, which lifts the cost.

What affects the price
- Height. Walls over one metre in Sydney generally need an engineer and council sign-off, adding cost.
- Material. Treated pine sleepers are cheapest; concrete sleepers, besser block and sandstone cost more and last longer.
- Drainage. A proper wall needs agg-pipe and gravel behind it, which is part of doing it right.
- Access. Tight backyards that cannot fit a machine push up the labour.
